How GST is calculated

Adding GST: GST amount = base × rate ÷ 100; total = base + GST.

Removing GST (when a price already includes GST): base = total × 100 ÷ (100 + rate); GST = total − base.

For a sale within the same state, GST is split equally into CGST (Central) and SGST (State) — so 18% becomes 9% + 9%. For inter-state sales, the full amount is IGST instead.

Which GST rate should I use?

It depends on the product or service category. Common slabs are 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. Check the official GST rate for your specific item.
