Percentage formulas

  • X% of Y = (X ÷ 100) × Y
  • X is what % of Y = (X ÷ Y) × 100
  • % change = ((New − Old) ÷ Old) × 100

What's the difference between percentage change and percentage points?

Percentage change compares two values relative to the first. Percentage points are a plain subtraction of two percentages (e.g. 40% to 45% is a 5 percentage-point rise, but a 12.5% increase).
